Music Teacher/Director

We are currently looking for a Music Teacher/Director for 2012-2013. The School is seeking to appoint a dynamic and versatile Music Teacher/Director who will join our faculty in January 2013 and contribute effectively to advancing the quality, creativity and rigor of our music program.

The Music Teacher/Director leads the music program for the entire school. This position requires teaching and directing responsibilities. The Music Teacher/Director will also work with the Head of Schools (Academics) to develop a well-rounded program for the school. The Music Teacher/Director must carry out duties in accordance with the philosophy, standards, and practices of the IB programmes, as well as the policies of the school.

Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree and a Teaching Certificate, and experience of at least three years teaching in Music.  The school is particularly interested in teachers with:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree including a history of targeted professional development courses in music
  • A minimum of 3 years experience. Overseas experience is particularly valuable.
  • Strong academic background in music and the performing arts
  • Experience with and/or training in the International Baccalaureate programs preferred
  • Leadership in music production and band
  • Experience with using a multi-cultural approach to promote learning
  • Ability to differentiate for diverse learning needs and levels
  • Excellent computer skills and integration of technology into the curriculum
  • Ability to create a stimulating classroom environment and to utilize the local context and environment to enhance learning
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A passion for teaching and learning
  • Desire to be part of the school and its community by committing to its vision and mission
  • Experience with teaching steel drums

Professional Qualifications and Requirements

Lyford Cay International School is seeking to recruit highly qualified teachers who can support the development of the school and who add significantly to our Student Life programmes.

Professional requirements consist of:

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with an array of suitably targeted professional development courses.
  • Teaching certification and documented record of excellence in teaching
  • A minimum of 3 years experience. Overseas experience is particularly valuable
  • Experience and/or training with the International Baccalaureate preferred
  • Flexibility in teaching areas (multiple certifications or experience, Spanish/French, Science/Mathematics)
  • Experience with authentic assessment practices and inquiry-based learning
  • Experience with using a multi-cultural approach to promote learning
